Issues encountered during editing

Issues encountered during editing

We had issues with continuity editing within our film as there were some shots that didn't match up to the next when we put our rough cut together. We also got feedback from the audience that some of the storyline didn't match up and make sense and this was due to some shots not being edited together properly and the actions not matching up when the shots changed. Due to these issues we had to re edit and re film parts of the conversation within the mental institute as that scene on our rough cut looks abnormal compared to the finished version.

We also had to re film some other scenes within the house as when we began editing we had problems matching the shots up. Also once we had got them cut together for the rough cut we realised that we did't have many close up and these shots are used to show emotion. This means these shots were essential to have within our psychological thriller as the film focus on the feeling and the mental state of the characters. After we added more close ups shots the film looked more professional and we the audience were able to get a more personal feel for the characters.

Another problem that we encountered during the editing process was matching the sound up to the appropriate shots. For example we had to fit a voice over in a certain time space and we had to adapt the film footage so that the voice over ended at the correct moment. The highlighted section within the screen shot below highlights the voice over that is over the graveyard scene.

Another sound effect that was hard to match up was the sound effect at the ending of the film. It was challenging for us to match up the sound effect of the care crash with Katherine opening her eyes. We ended up using a different sound effect originally but then we found that the one we used in the final cut fitted better as it lasted longer and we wanted her eyes to stay open in an uncomfortable stare.
